You can learn more about Lisa Maria Otte and her professional background in this Q&A.
What do you work with?
I work with the Country Market Director and the leadership team of Ramboll Management Consulting in Germany as a Senior Consultant in Business Development. My aim is to make the principles of sustainability flourish in our daily practices as well as on the long run.
Our new Ramboll Group strategy The Partner for Sustainable Change is setting some ambitious goals that we want and need to achieve. I’m proud to be part of and even shape the process around this.
What made you want to join Ramboll Management Consulting?
Having called on sustainable change for many years - as an environmental activist, as a campaigner at NGOs and as Green Member of Parliament - I asked myself how private companies and public entities cope with facing this urgent transition.
It has become clear that the climate and biodiversity crises can only be overcome united. Civil society, government and business need to work together and be pulling in the same direction.
As a consultant I want to help clients and stakeholders navigate their individual paths towards a more sustainable future. When I read about Ramboll’s Strategic Sustainability Consultancy and the new strategy The Partner for Sustainable Changes I was eager to apply.
What is the most significant professional experience you have had so far?
Being with Greenpeace for a decade shaped my critical mind along with my creative spirit. As a volunteer, activist and later as a professional campaigner I took bold actions to raise awareness for the dying planet.
One of my most significant tasks was to implement the international Save The Arctic campaign in Germany. After leaving Greenpeace in 2018 I took the role of Head of Programmes at the international animal welfare organization Four Paws in Germany.
I've been an elected member the state parliament of Hamburg (Bürgerschaft) for the Green Party since February 2020. The legislative session is still ongoing, and therefore I work part time at Ramboll Management Consulting.
What is the most exciting development within your field of work?
The most exciting development is that climate change and sustainability finally have become top priorities in media, politics and business strategies. Just before Fridays for Future brought millions of people to the streets worldwide, I was close to giving up hope that humanity will ever listen to the more and more alarming reports of scientists and of communities most affected by climate change.
Today people are recognizing and talking about the multiple crises resulting from our excessive exploitation of the planet. The challenge now is to act fast and smart enough.
How do you define the higher purpose of what you do?
Being part of a just and sustainable transition to a world where humans get back to being in balance with nature and with each other.
What is your best source of inspiration?
The best source of inspiration for me is to cherish nature. Taking a deep breath in an ancient forest or exploring the stunning underwater world while scuba diving makes me want to save this beautiful planet.
If I had the skills, I would love to be…?
A professional singer and performer live on stage. I’d definitely wear some glittery outfit and dance like Beyoncé - IF I had the skills. I’d probably do it part time next to my job at Ramboll Management Consulting.
