Welcome to our recent joiner

Here you will meet our new sustainability expert Niki Bey, Ph.D. Niki has recently joined our Strategy & Sustainability Advisory-team in Copenhagen. Transitioning from research to consulting, he will be working with both private and public sector clients – enabling them to fulfill their own ambitious sustainability targets and UN’s Global Goals.

You can learn more about Niki Bey and his professional background in this Q&A.

What do you work with?

Together with my colleagues, I help clients with their sustainability work, irrespective of where they are on their journey; be it “from scratch”, i.e. identifying focus areas that are material to them, over to determining levers, creating strategies and setting goals, all the way to integrating concrete new or adapted activities, technologies, indicators, processes and business approaches.

What made you want to join Ramboll Management Consulting?

The primary reason is my wish to influence and support sustainability actions directly in various client organisations – rather than the more indirect way through contributions from academia, where I previously did my work.

What made Ramboll Management Consulting particularly interesting in that regard is that it is part of the Ramboll group. That gives me the opportunity to draw upon and exchange knowledge with the vast amount of proven state-of-the-art engineering expertise, and that again enables me to advise clients towards complete, real-life solutions.

Last not least, it is also highly attractive to work in an organisation with such a deep experience as Ramboll Management Consulting has in working with the public sector and society at large, since any full-scale sustainable solution needs to be borne by both the private and the public sector.

What is the most significant professional experience you have had so far?

I’ve worked in this field for over 20 years so there are many highlights and great experiences.

My most cited scientific paper was on drivers and barriers for implementing environmental actions in production companies and I’ve had the privilege to work with this topic across cultures and geographies. All of which taught me a lot about how both drivers and barriers differ greatly from place to place. Speaking of cultures and geographies, I was also fortunate enough to sit on Kimberly-Clark Corporation's (USA) Sustainability Advisory Board for two years applying my knowledge in a truly global, corporate context.

What are the most exciting developments within your field of work?

Locally and globally alike, for me the most exciting development is actually twofold:

  1. There is a clear trend that sustainability has reached the board rooms of many organisations, i.e. it has reached utmost attention in executive management circles,

    and

  2. Ambitious long-term goals – with absolute reduction targets, rather than relative ones – are becoming more and more common. What makes this even more interesting from my perspective is that this trend is backed, and even triggered by international research and global societal movements.

So sustainability is becoming mainstream in society and business – and we at Ramboll Management Consulting have the skills to propel and accelerate this development.

Meet Niki Bey, Ph.D., Senior Manager. Niki is joining us from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he served as Associate Professor in Life Cycle Management.

How are you planning on bringing these facts to Ramboll's clients?

I plan to do so in different ways. For instance by responding to client requests in a collaborative spirit, identifying the client’s particular situation and opportunities. And also by approaching selected clients and offering our services. On top of this I – and Ramboll – want to inspire and advocate, so taking part in conferences, seminars, and so on is also part of my job.”

How do you define the higher purpose of what you do?

By bringing my expertise into play in clients organisations, I can help them avoid pitfalls and enable them to use their resources most effectively (also in the most literally sense), and thus accelerate the transition towards a sustainable society.

What (or who) is your best source of inspiration?

I have been inspired by many individuals and collaborations over the years. But to mention one person; my former colleague Professor Tim McAloone, from DTU comes to mind. He is truly an inspiration to me and a specialist within Circular Economy.

We have worked together for many years on projects regarding sustainable product development (Ecodesign), Sustainable product/service systems, ideation, business models and the integration of this in organisations. These mutual projects and interests entailed many interesting and enlightening conversations and discussions. And now I find it possible to continue these inspiring dialogues with my new colleagues all around Ramboll.

At my desk I always have…?

A coffee mug – which follows me to meetings and chats during the day.

If I had the skills, I would love to be…?

…as good a guitarplayer as my guitar teacher.
