Ricardo Weigend Rodriguez

Principal Consultant in Circular Economy

Welcome to our recent joiner, Ricardo.

What do you work with?

I work at Ramboll UK, in the Strategic Sustainability Consulting team, as a Principal in Circular Economy.

What made you want to join Ramboll Management Consulting?

At the last stage of my PhD studies, as a researcher, I had a similar role to a consultant. I really enjoyed this role and wanted to become a consultant after finalizing my studies. I found an opportunity at Ramboll UK.

After exploring the organisation through its webpage and reading case studies I believed Ramboll is a values-based organisation and is important to me, and I also found out that Circular Economy is a crucial enabler in the new Ramboll’s strategy towards 2025.

What is the most significant professional experience you have had so far?

I worked for 10 years at Heineken-Mexico and during my last two years, I brought the concept of Circular Economy into play at the organisation. Incorporating this new economic paradigm by designing a three-year roadmap and strategy towards its implementation.

What is the most exciting development within your field of work?

The Circular Economy is an emergent concept and discipline. At Ramboll, there is a unified focus to incorporate this as one of our strongholds internally and as a consulting service externally. This is the most exciting part for me right now to contribute to the framing of the strategy and collaborate with colleagues from other markets in this effort.

How are you planning on bringing this to our clients?

With Circular Economy picking up more and more attention and becoming a key lever for the much-needed sustainable transformation, we have set up a team of experts with technical, financial and strategic skills.

I’m happy and proud to be part of this team that offers a holistic and multidisciplinary approach that addresses all kinds of client pains and needs.

Meet our recent joiner, Ricardo Weigend Rodriguez. Ricardo is a Principal Consultant in Circular Economy at Ramboll. He is working for the Strategic Sustainability Consulting-team in the UK

How do you define the higher purpose of what you do?

The purpose of what I do is to make a meaningful positive difference, and contribute towards a sustainable future, by helping organisations design better futures for people and the planet. I feel that it is my responsibility to leave this world for future generations in a better situation than how I found it and I am happy I can contribute towards this at Ramboll.

What (or who) is your best source of inspiration?

Unfortunately, my granddad and my dad are no longer here, but their legacy remains with me. The way they lived their lives inspires me and I try to live with the same standard of values and the same ambitions as they did. My mom is also an enormous source of inspiration, for her effort and sacrifices for the good of our family.

At my desk I always have…?

Coffee - Americano or brewed

If I had the skills, I would love to be…?

A jazz musician or a professional football player. I love music - especially the sound of the saxophone - and I love sports in general. Probably because I have family members that are very good at playing music and playing football.

My dad and one of my uncles were professional football players in Mexico in the 1970s and 1980s, and they both won a title for Tigres in 1978.

Any facts we should know about you?

I recently finished a PhD in Circular Economy and Strategic Foresight at Edinburgh Napier University.
In 2015 I obtained a Master’s degree in Management and Corporate Sustainability at Cranfield University, in the UK, and I hold a bachelor’s degree in International Relations at ITESM Campus Monterrey, in Mexico.
