Mike Mittendorfer joined Ramboll's building structural engineering team in 2007.
Mike’s energy, enthusiasm and professionalism are qualities greatly valued by his clients, resulting in the vast majority of Mike’s projects coming from repeat work.
Throughout his career at Ramboll he has worked on some of London’s most prized assets, including; Temperate House, where our work as lead consultant and conservation engineer helped update and restore the largest surviving Victorian glasshouse in the world; phase 2 of the £800m extension to BBC’s headquarters in Portland Place, a highly constrained site at just 5m above underground lines; and CitizenM Hotel, Tower Hill, located within a UNESCO world heritage site the new hotel interfaces with the original Roman City Wall and Tower Hill Underground station.
Mike’s 30 years’ experience extends new build, refurbishment and historic projects within the education, commercial, residential, industrial sectors, mixed-use and public sector (museums, galleries, parks and palaces).

Sometimes it pays to look twice at received ideas about what works and what doesn’t. By questioning some basic assumptions, we were able to provide cost-saving innovations on this HQ development in Aberdeen.
Three buildings are connected by an internal fully-glazed triple-height ‘street’. Comprising a total of seven wings, the buildings project out on either side of the street, so the overall structure is roughly star shaped on plan. Each three-storey building is steel framed and is clad in glazing and rendered panels. Two atria book-end the development, and a long span stair provides a visual focal point.

Uppingham School sports centre sustainability services
The first phase of campus redevelopment at Uppingham School in Rutland included the construction of a new two-storey sports centre. The 4,690 sq m facility provides a 25m pool, sports hall, dance studio, gym and associated amenities as well as a reception, catering kitchen and hospitality suites. Uppingham School's chief concern was to have a high-quality facility that incorporated sustainable features and reduced energy consumption.

New School, Harringay
The New School in London's Haringey is the first new school to be built in the borough since the 1960s. It provides teaching accommodation and facilities for more than 1,000 pupils. Included in the scheme are 60 new classrooms, a sports hall, an assembly space, a cafeteria and kitchen, and science laboratories. The building is designed to be an exemplar sustainable school and to achieve a BREEAM 'excellent' rating.
The location of the site adjacent to a main railway line led to the need for mechanical ventilation throughout the building. In addition, the high level of IT installations has meant the installation of cooling to most of the classrooms.

Brookwood Farm and Coresbrook Way
Despite its conventional appearance, this 12-dwelling residential development is an innovation for Britain. It achieves Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 compliance, one of the first such traditional housing projects to do so. We worked with the architect-developer to facilitate this achievement within the constraints of a low-key aesthetic that was central to gaining planning consent.
