Strengthening Regional Planning Using BRUTUS

Long-term regional planning requires coordination of stakeholder management and communication. In the Turku Region, Noora Mäki-Arvela, regional planner for the Regional Council of Southwest Finland, uses Ramboll’s BRUTUS simulation model for this. BRUTUS delivers easily communicative and detailed insights that strengthen collaboration between stakeholders in different organisational directions.

Predicting and Communicating Future Cycling Flows Using BRUTUS

Aiming to become a world-class bicycle city, the City of Utrecht needed a tool to predict cycling flows. At a conference in Vancouver, Herbert Tiemens, senior policy advisor for cycling innovation and bicycles for the City of Utrecht, came across Ramboll’s BRUTUS simulation model. The agent-based model delivers detailed predictions of transport modelling, including cycling, and so the City of Utrecht found it suitable for their project.

Optimising Public Transport Using Anonymous Location Data

Location data from mobile devices provide us with the knowledge necessary for efficient and long-term planning of public transport. In cooperation with telecom operator Telia, Ramboll works on a project aiming to inform transport modelling in Finland. Using anonymous and aggregated data from Telia Crowd Insights, Ramboll seeks to assess how people based on today’s patterns were to travel if a new rail line were to be built. The aggregated data set is created according to GDPR rules, and with this method it is not possible to track individuals.

While traffic is cramming up, recent advances in technology is a highway of opportunities for transportation companies all over the world. One of them, Movia - catering for 215 million yearly passengers, commissioned Ramboll Management Consulting to help advance the company’s understanding of Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

Analysis of travel destinations via GPS data from Inrix

Regional transport models are being used to evaluate the effects of land use planning and forecasted traffic growth. Ramboll was commissioned by Region Skane to validate the existing national transport model SAMPERS by using GPS-data provided by Inrix.

Analysis of speed profiles via GPS data from TomTom

The highway road network around the Malmo region faces congestion and disturbance daily. GPS-data from motorized vehicles provides information over the location of the bottlenecks by the historic speed reduction on the segment. The information was used to optimize mitigation measures in a cost-effective way and to reduce accidents.
