Ramboll Asia Pacific Headquarters is awarded the Green Mark Platinum Healthier Workplaces Certification

Ramboll's Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore at 100 Amoy Street received the highest accolade of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum Award for Healthier Workplaces (HW: 2018).

Ramboll's Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore at 100 Amoy Street received the highest accolade of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum Award for Healthier Workplaces (HW: 2018).

The internationally-recognised green building certification is a collaboration between BCA and the Health Promotion Board (HPB) that aims to integrate and prioritise health and well-being by incorporating designs, policies and programmes that promote office sustainability and employee health, well-being, and comfort.

Sarah Katz, Ramboll’s Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility for Asia Pacific said: “I am very proud of this achievement which signifies our commitment to sustainable building practices, energy-efficiency, resource-efficiency, and healthier interior spaces. It sets a benchmark to maximise employee health and well-being. Anyone that has been to our office at Amoy Street has noticed the unique charm of the property which marries the rich heritage of Singapore and Ramboll’s heritage through its sustainability focused minimalistic design philosophy. The lush greenery, inviting open kitchen, welcoming lighting, and the air quality all make you feel good. I have felt it myself, heard it from colleagues as well as from clients."

The 4-storey shophouses are retrofitted and designed to celebrate the local heritage whilst accentuating the Nordic’s minimalistic design style, with the end-users’ comfort in mind. To meet the green and healthier workplace standards poses significant challenges due to the traditional architectural characteristics. To mitigate the challenge, the design team incorporated a range of sustainability features throughout the design process, including:

  1. Energy efficiency: Decentralised air-conditioning systems are adopted which feature zoning controls to optimise energy consumption. The energy efficiency index has improved to 67.4170kWh/m2/yr, below BCA regulation benchmark value of 70kWh/m2/yr.
  2. Green features: Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) monitors are installed at all levels to monitor carbon dioxide, relative humidity and temperature for the well-being of staff ensuring that indoor air is within optimal ranges for overall performance.
  3. Mindful reuse: Furniture and fittings were reused whenever possible to minimise waste.
  4. Green procurement: green procurement standards for the contractors were implemented, ensuring only Singapore Green Building Products (SGBP) are used for renovation materials such as paints, concrete, and carpets.

“When we took the decision to bring together all our Singapore-based competencies under one roof, we knew that we wanted to pool together our internal knowledge and expertise on design, sustainability, energy efficiency, circularity, safety and well-being, the office being a showcase for what it looks like to be the partner for sustainable change.” Commented Mrs Katz.

The office provides an inviting space for industry collaboration, reflecting to Ramboll’s commitment to advancing sustainability agendas. Recent events that took place at 100 Amoy Street included the Urban Lab initiative in collaboration with Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities.

“We are committed to taking absolute and measurable steps to achieve a highly sustainable regional headquarters that blends in with the heritage downtown environment that we are part of. And with the Green Mark platinum certification we can demonstrate that commitment publicly to all our visitors.” Added Mrs Katz.

The 100 Amoy Street office also received the bronze award for the Most Innovative & Sustainable Office Design" category at the Employee Experience Award 2024, hosted by Human Resources Online in Singapore.
