Ramboll supports Hanwha Ocean with the design of South Korea’s largest offshore wind farm
Ramboll is supporting Hanwha Ocean, a leading global company with extensive expertise and experience in the shipbuilding and offshore industry, with designing the offshore substation for the largest offshore wind farm in South Korea. The Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind Farm, located about 4km south of Ui-do Island, is expected to produce more than three times the wind energy currently produced by all Korean offshore wind farms each year.
Ramboll, a global engineering, architecture and consultancy company, was appointed by Hanwha Ocean (part of Hanwha Group) for the detailed design of the high voltage alternating current (HVAC) Offshore substation. The Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind Farm project will include 26 units of V236-15.0 MW turbines, which will be installed on fixed foundations in the southeastern waters of the island.
Sreeram Radhakrishnan, Ramboll’s Project Manager, said: “South Korea aims to triple the share of renewables, including wind and solar capacity in the country’s power mix by 2030. The Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind Farm is key to this goal and will be capable of producing 390 megawatts of wind energy annually. Hanwha is spearheading the transition towards carbon neutrality in South Korea and Ramboll is very proud to be partnering with Hanwha Ocean on this project. This partnership will become the catalyst in enabling Hanwha’s green energy vision.”
The project will be delivered over a period of 14 months by a global team of offshore wind energy experts, led by the local team in Asia Pacific.
“We pride ourselves with the powerful combination of close client proximity, deep local understanding with the expertise and experiences of a global team that has delivered projects worldwide.”
