Equatorial Hotel, Malaysia

An award-winning sustainable high-rise redevelopment

The 53-storey high-rise is a redevelopment of the renowned Hotel Equatorial built in 1973. Its luxury hospitality component is complemented by an office programme, both stacking to create the building’s staggering 230-metre silhouette. Led by GDP Architects, an all-Malaysian project team contrived to deliver the tower along one of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest roads.

The close collaboration between Ramboll and the architects yielded both efficient and creative structural solutions challenged by a tight 0.8-hectare site without compromising the building’s signature design.

Our reuse of materials together with other passive design features, active design, energy efficiency and water efficiency has contributed to Plaza Equatorial’s Green Building Index (GBI) Gold certification.
