Mediacorp: An Epicentre for Creative Production
Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest content creator and national media network, resides within a 74,322sqm headquarters building recognisable by its iconic sweeping forms of polished metal and glass. Envisioned as an epicentre for creative production, the 2015 12-storey campus designed by Japanese architect Maki and Associates and DP Architects includes four studios, a 1,500-seat theatre and an integrated multi-platform newsroom.
Offering full scope consultancy services, Ramboll undertook the task of delivering on civil, structural and geotechnical aspects of the competition-winning design. One of the biggest challenges presented was the design of a 36-metre-wide transfer floor that suspended 5 storeys of building over column-free box-in-box structures of production studios underneath. The tremendous span among other designs represent the variety of bespoke solutions needed to meet both architectural and programmatical requirements.
Our work on MediaCorp has garnered recognition through wins at the Institution of Structural Engineers Singapore Structural Award 2016 (Entertainment category) and Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore Excellence Awards 2018. In addition, the building has also been awarded the BCA Green Mark Platinum rating in 2013 for its eco-friendly technology, the BCA Construction Excellence Award Commercial/Mixed Development 2017 and the President’s Design Award Singapore 2018 for Design of the Year.
