Atmosphere in Kolkata

A residential icon in Kolkata, the Atmosphere is a luxury condominium development that comprises two 37-storey residential towers with large terraces and gardens for each unit. Connecting the towers at level 30 is the Deya – or cloud in Bengali – a 4-level skyclub envisioned as a floating sculpture with pool and garden open to the sky.​

The engineering challenge arose from the need to support the multilevel amorphous form with its span of 100 metres. Ramboll’s solution was to create a diagrid mesh through a series of primary and secondary trusses, that not only creates a robust self-supporting structure but also flexible enough to resist Kolkata’s prevailing wind and seismic forces which is the first of its kind in the world.
