Located 22km east of the Indonesian capital’s administrative heart, Kota Harapan Indah (KHI) is a rapidly developing suburb encompassing an area of 2,200 hectares. With supermarkets, schools, commercial offices and sports facilities in place, KHI is poised to meet the growing demands for quality living outside the city centre.

Perennial congestion has however been an obstacle to growth. To harness its full potential, the client has embarked on an ambitious programme to transform KHI into a transit-oriented district (TOD) by aligning with future public rail corridor plans and allowing the Jakarta LRT metro expansion into the suburb.

Creating a Unique and Attractive Destination

Ramboll has applied our extensive knowledge and experience in urban design to formulate integrated solutions to support KHI’s TOD transformation. Our detailed studies have helped inform a human-centric development model that focuses on placemaking; by introducing walkable neighbourhoods and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD), we are able to create a unique urban image of KHI as an attractive local destination of liveability and recreation. Leveraging on these qualities and the township’s strategic location, KHI TOD can capitalise on its lucrative land values and concretise its implementation ability, and better serve the various communities of Greater Jakarta.
