Tuas Port: Delivering a Fully Integrated Maritime Hub

Singapore’s mega port undergoes extensive study to develop a comprehensive transport masterplan capable of catering to demand, growth and future expansion.
Tuas Port. Together with MPAS and various government ministries and agencies, Ramboll helped develop the transport masterplan including Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) and design of transport infrastructures

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPAS) has launched the new Tuas Port to consolidate container terminal activities in the future, in addition to other potential developments surrounding the area such as Aboveground Space, Underground Space and Tuas Terminal Gateway. As the project’s transport planners, Ramboll’s core objectives were to study the port’s impact on the greater Tuas/Jurong transport network, understand its future demand and propose a holistic transport strategy to integrate the accessibility for all developments within the port compound.

The complexities of planning Singapore’s largest container terminal – and the world’s when all phases are complete in 2040 – require close collaboration and coordination between all involved. Working with MPAS and various government ministries and agencies, we helped develop a transport masterplan through exhaustive studies that include extensive data collection, surveys, Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA), transport infrastructures’ design based on forecast demand and mesoscopic transportation models.

A Port for the Future

With client adoption of the traffic design, the right steps were taken towards creating a robust and resilient maritime hub with Ramboll maintaining ongoing support through detailed refinements. And with the successful first-phase launch of Tuas Port in 2022, the vision of a fully integrated port of the future has never been brighter.
