Waste Infrastructure

The world continues generating increasing amounts of waste. To protect natural resources, we need to establish efficient waste infrastructure and transition the economy towards circularity.

Let’s use waste as a resource

If properly sorted and treated, waste is a great alternative to fossil carbon which is used in almost all the materials around us. When impossible to recycle, residual waste becomes a valuable local source of energy. There are different ways in which waste can be repurposed instead of discarding it in the environment. But harnessing waste’s potential as a resource is only possible through a well-developed waste infrastructure.

At Ramboll we offer waste infrastructure consultancy services tailored to meet the specific needs of clients and industries. We ensure efficient management systems that maximise the value of waste and promote circularity.

We are also globally renowned waste-to-energy consultants having worked on projects in 55 countries, and experienced renewable carbon & bioenergy consultants with over 200 successful biogas and biofuel completed projects.

: >250  projects

We have a large team of project managers and specialists working on circular waste infrastructure solutions, with in-depth knowledge of processes, technologies, suppliers, environmental regulations, and facility operation.

“Ramboll has shown that they, with their broad palette of advisory services, are the right partner to aid us in this journey, so we in unison can help promote recycling, reduce CO2 emissions, and promote the circular economy”

Providing waste infrastructure consultancy services across every stage of your project

We provide a complete suite of advisory services related to waste infrastructure:

  • Waste sorting facilities: Our experience covers many types and applications of sorting plants, plastic sorting facilities, fuel preparation (RDF or SRF) for gasification and pyrolysis, and incineration bottom ash treatment
  • Pyrolysis and thermal gasification: We have an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by the technology as well as the advantages which can be achieved by processing biomass or waste and transforming it into fuel and oils
  • Civil amenity centres: We assist clients in designing and optimising recycling stations and other waste collection and treatment facilities. Our services encompass design, procurement, and construction advisory along with preparing environmental permits and assisting in approval processes
  • Landfill, landfill gas and leachate management: We assist our clients in ensuring the secure handling of landfilled waste and designing systems for environmentally sustainable operation of gas and leachate systems, including setting up monitoring systems and assisting with preparing environmental permits and approval processes
  • Anaerobic digestion and biogas: We embrace work across the entire value chain of anaerobic digestion, from feedstock sourcing, markets, logistics, anaerobic digestion process and operation
  • Hazardous waste facilities: We have the updated knowledge of designing, tendering, and contracting a hazardous waste incineration plant providing owner’s engineering services for several new green field hazardous waste facilities
