2024
National Building and Construction Awards 2024 winner

We are proud to be celebrating British Antarctic Survey's recognition with a Project of the Year Gold Award win at the National Building and Construction Awards 2024.

Sisk Supply Chain Awards 2024 winner

We are excited to receive the Supply Chain Partner of the Year – UK Civils at the Sisk Supply Chain Awards, recognising our collaboration on the National Highways Concrete Roads Framework and the A5 Section 2 in Northern Ireland.

Techfest 2024 Awards shortlisting

We are pleased that our Façade Assessment Tool for Performance Analysis & Dynamic Appraisal has been shortlisted for the Techfest 2024 Awards, under the Best Use of Technology: Design Efficiency category.

Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) Awards 2024 - shortlisting and win

Two of our digital façade tools make this year’s digital innovation shortlist at the Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) Awards 2024, supporting enhanced sustainability and cohesive design and risk reduction during the early design stages.

  • Our Façade Assessment Tool for Performance Analysis & Dynamic Appraisal integrates multiple facets of design, from environmental impact to architectural refinement, and appraises options to find the optimal solution for a more cohesive and sustainable façade design.
  • Our Residential Façades Analysis and Consulting Engine facilitates optimised client decisions in the pre-planning phase by presenting solutions that mitigate compliance risks, with a focus on adaptability, to bring enhanced flexibility during the early design stages.

We are delighted that our Façade Assessment Tool for Performance Analysis & Dynamic Appraisal went on to win the Digital Innovation Award at the SFE Awards 2024 ceremony.

British Geotechnical Association (BGA) 2024 Fleming Award winner

We are delighted to share that the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Scheme in Cork, Ireland won the British Geotechnical Association (BGA) 2024 Fleming Award in recognition of the team’s excellent geotechnical project work.

Providing Specialist Geotechnical Design expertise, Ramboll joined forces with Fehily Timoney and Company, John Sisk & Son Ltd, Menard UK and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

We have also been shortlisted with the innovative 2 Finsbury Avenue in the same category.

British Council for Offices (BCO) NextGen Awards 2024 shortlisting

Commending Amanda Karen Chan, a Senior Consultant in Ramboll’s Regenerative Cities team, who is a finalist in the Rising Star Scotland category at the 2024 BCO (British Council for Offices) NextGen Awards, acknowledging outstanding achievements of people under 35.

The shortlisting recognises her collaboration with the Scottish Government on integrating digital data into future planning systems. Her steer has been fundamental in the research, testing and the implementation of new technologies in planning, as well as creating an innovative forum for positive collaboration on prevailing matters and opportunities.

Structural Timber Awards 2024 shortlisting and winner

We are proud to be celebrating Grime’s Graves’ continued success and recognition, with a Structural Timber Association Awards win in the Retail & Leisure Project of the Year category.

Also pleased for W3 King's Cross being shortlisted in the Commercial Project of the Year category.

The Institution of Structural Engineers North West Awards 2024 winner

We are excited that Grime’s Graves’ was also recognised with two IStructE NW awards for:

  • Project Constructed Outside of the Northwest Region.

Building Awards 2024 shortlisting

We have been shortlisted for the Building Magazine Awards 2024 Small Project of the Year with the inspiring Grime’s Graves Project in Norfolk - Britain’s only accessible Neolithic flint mine.

Our Ramboll colleagues fully embraced the geotechnical challenges, ensuring the stability of the ancient mines whilst integrating a contemporary visitor centre and access through an innovative sustainable timber-framed structure over the open mineshaft.

Gold Standard: 2024 Offsite Awards shortlisting

We have been shortlisted for the Offsite Awards 2024 with the innovative Beechwood Village 250-homes project in two categories - Best Use of Timber Technology and Engineer of the Year. Ramboll contributed from the outset as Structural Engineer, Sustainability and MEP engineer. Congratulations to all.

RIBA East Award 2024 and RIBA National Award 2024 winner

We are delighted that Beechwood Village, a custom-made neighbourhood for Essex, has won two RIBA Awards, with Ramboll's contribution as Structural Engineer, Sustainability and MEP engineer.

The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) Award 2024 winner

Will Robertshaw, Ramboll Geospatial and AI Engineer from our Digitalisation team won the Early Career Professional Award at this year's AGI (The Association for Geographic Information) ceremony, acknowledging his outstanding contributions in the geospatial field.

Congratulations to Will on leading the development of District One by Ramboll – an AI enabled, city-wide scale, heat network design software that completely transforms the process through speed and precision. District One utilises spatial machine learning to construct intelligent city-wide networks in minutes, using real world scenario modelling.

New Civil Engineer (NCE) Bridges Awards 2024 shortlisting

CIHT West Midlands Award 2024 winner

Congratulations to Daniela Mitru, Principal Engineer from our Highways & Infrastructure team for winning the Emerging Professional Award at this year's CIHT West Midlands ceremony.

The award recognises her significant contributions to transport infrastructure projects particularly in the areas of active travel and clean air, as well as encouraging future engineers into the industry.

Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) 2024

Once again Ramboll’s innovative work on modular precast flexible bridge abutments, which we supported Laing O'Rourke in developing, has received recognition, this time through a Highly Commended Technology and Innovation Award.

The innovative productised system and digital modelling accelerates construction, de-risks programmes, saves cost and materials, whilst improving safety, overall delivering a fundamental contribution to the future of bridge design.

Civic Trust Awards 2024 winner

“Clifford’s Tower project not only preserves history but elevates the visitor experience, making it a cherished landmark for both locals and tourists alike”, were the judges’ comments on recognising Clifford’s Tower as one of only 22 CIVIC TRUST AWARDS winners from over 320 projects entered this year.

This award adds to the project’s collection of accolades, including the National Federation of Builders (NFB) Awards of Excellence 2023, Structural Timber Awards 2022 and Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Award, reflecting its value as a historical and local landmark, and significance in the community.

Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) Awards winner

We are excited that Ramboll was recognised with four awards at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) Awards:

  • Lifetime Achievement award - Peter Curran
  • Social Value Project award - Emmanuel A.
  • Best Innovation and Technology Project award - work on modular bridges and digital design

2023
Fleming Award 2023 winner

As the designer of the 114 suction caisson jacket foundations, we are extremely proud that Seagreen Offshore Wind farm has won the prestigious Fleming Award 2023, by the British Geotechnical Association.

With a maximum turbine depth of 58.6 metres, Seagreen is the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm. And with a maximum capacity of 1,075 MW it has the ability to power more than 1.6 m homes and is also Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm in operation.

TechFest Awards winner
  • Congratulations to Iman Warsame, a senior engineer in the Ramboll Automation team, who won the Digital Rising Star award at last night’s TechFest hosted by New Civil Engineer & Construction News. The award recognises professionals bringing forward innovative solutions or making important contributions to projects through technology.
  • We were also pleased to be part of the Laing O'Rourke team with WSP and Tony Gee and Partners that received the Techfest Digital Engineering award for the DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) digital configuration tool for bridge products, that saves time and resources, reducing the associated carbon emissions.

Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA) 2023 winner

“This elegant, exposed steel structure springs off a system of trusses spanning a busy road tunnel. Despite depths of over 6m and the biggest weighing 130t, the trusses were transported to site and installed fully assembled. The result is a high-quality office building with excellent sustainability credentials which has helped transform this area into a pedestrian friendly campus”, were the judges’ comments on recognising One Centenary Way, Birmingham as a Structural Steel Design Awards 2023 winner.

One Centenary Way overlooks the transformed Centenary Square and its unique, exposed steel exoskeleton frame provides a striking visual gateway to Paradise, becoming a major new landmark for the city.

Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) Awards

Proud to be part of the HS2 (High Speed Two) Environmental Overview Consultant (EOC) Arup+ partnership, that picked up the Sustainability award.

Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK) shortlisting

A big well done to Emmanuel A. who was a runner up for the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK) Young BME Professional of the Year, at their annual gala awards.

Environment Analyst Brownfield Awards 2023

At the recent Environment Analyst Brownfield Awards, North London Heat and Power Project by the North London Waste Authority won:

  • Best Sustainable Brownfield Infrastructure Scheme
  • Best Public Sector Brownfield Project

Ramboll is technical advisor to NLWA in the delivery of its North London Heat and Power Project. We have supported NLWA in initial engineering studies and design development and procurement and will provide owner’s engineering services during project implementation and initial operation of the two-line facility.

FIDIC Global Infrastructure Awards 2023

Wojciech Szewczak, Ramboll Associate in Management Consulting, won two FIDIC - International Federation of Consulting Engineers' awards:

  • Future Leaders Award for Outstanding Achievement, recognising his contribution to the UK's infrastructure sector, especially through his role with the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) and his work in strategic sustainability
  • Member Association Excellence Award for Best Diversity & Inclusion Initiative, recognising his participation in ACE's cross-industry Building Inclusivity campaign
Ground Engineering Awards shortlist

Council of the Institution of Engineering Designers 'Support, Inspire, Achieve' Award

John Armitage - Ramboll Technical Director, Bridges, was selected by the Council of the Institution of Engineering Designers as the 2023 winner of their 'Support, Inspire, Achieve' Award for his work on Design for Manufacture and Assembly and Modern Methods of Construction in the bridge design field. The winner of the Award receives the Gerald Frewer Memorial Trophy 'for outstanding contributions in the field of engineering and/or product design, design management, education and training or design philosophy'.

ACE 'Inclusive Employer of the Year' Award

The Association for Decentralised Energy Awards winner

The E.ON UK Citigen Decarbonisation Project won the Technical Innovation Award at The Association for Decentralised Energy's annual awards, with Ramboll part of the winning team. The project is one of UK’s largest urban combined heating and cooling tri-generation systems and our team provided unique solutions for combined heating and cooling, achieving 50% fewer CO2 emissions.

The Association for Decentralised Energy's annual awards represent the most distinguished recognition for people and projects that help advance decentralised energy through ground-breaking, user-led solutions.

AJ100 Collaboration of the Year 2023 Award shortlist

The collaboration between Hawkins\Brown with Jacob Wilson of Be First, working with Ramboll and Cast on the Public Housing Pattern Book, was shortlisted at The Architects’ Journal Awards, with the winners to be announced in June.

Aiming to provide the right mix of standardisation and flexibility, the team developed guidance for architects and engineers to implement a design for manufacture and assembly approach, that will be made available for use by other affordable housing providers.

NFB Construction Awards of Excellence 2023 winner

Ramboll secured further recognition this year for Clifford’s Tower at the NFB Construction Awards of Excellence where the project was voted Winner of the Heritage and Conservation Project of the Year.

An 800-year-old landmark, Clifford’s Tower was re-imagined with a new free-standing sustainable timber solution that gives access to features unseen by the public in over 350 years. Working with Hugh Broughton Architects and conservation architect Martin Ashley Architects on the detailed design, Ramboll provided the engineering design solution for the tower’s sustainable timber structure.

2022
Dezeen Awards 2022 winner

Folkestone F51 Skate Park project is Dezeen’s 2022 Public Vote Winner for the Civic and Cultural Interior of the Year.

Working with Hollaway Studio, Ramboll provided the structural and façade engineering design for the world’s first purpose-built multi-storey skatepark that aims to support the regeneration of the harbour town of Folkestone.

Architecture Today Awards 2022 shortlisting

Gateshead Millennium Bridge has been shortlisted for the Architecture Today Awards 2022, which celebrate projects that have stood the test of time, 21 years after the bridge was designed and built. The Judges commented, "a key component in the regeneration of Gateshead, this compelling civic project is a heady mix of architecture and engineering".

The iconic Millennium Bridge was built by Wilkinson Eyre in 2001 as a a unique crossing for pedestrians and cyclists between Gateshead and Newcastle. Ramboll secured three wins and two Highly Commended awards at the Brownfield Awards 2022 ceremony, in a fantastic acknowledgement of our environmental commitment to sustainability and re-use of materials. These are:

Structural Timber Awards 2022 winners

Ramboll secured four awards at the 2022 Structural Timber Awards 2022 - a record win. These are:

• Winner of Winners Award – Clifford’s Tower • Retail & Leisure Project of the Year – Clifford’s Tower • Healthcare Project of the Year - Alder Hey Children's Hospital (with B&K Structures and Stora Enso) • Social Housing Project of the year – Beechwood West Six of our projects were shortlisted earlier this year, spread over 8 categories, with 13 shortlisted entries in total. The awards recognise innovative projects and people using timber and other natural materials to achieve exceptional sustainable results in architecture and engineering. The Winner of Winners Award – Clifford’s Tower is an 800-year-old landmark, re-imagined with a new free-standing sustainable timber solution that gives access to features unseen by the public in over 350 years. Working with Hugh Broughton Architects and conservation architect Martin Ashley Architects on the detailed design, Ramboll provided the engineering design solution for the tower’s sustainable timber structure.

ICE Wales Cymru Award winner

Caernarfon bypass project was named the best in Wales and received top prize - The George Gibby Award - at the ICE Wales Cymru Awards, celebrating civil engineering excellence in projects of all sizes and scopes throughout the region.

Judges recognised it as the best example of outstanding design and construction delivering traffic safety and economic and environmental benefits. Special mention was given to Ramboll “who engaged with and supported the local community”.

World Architecture Festival 2022 shortlisting

Folkestone F51 Skate Park has been shortlisted in the Completed Buildings: Sport category, at the 2022 World Architecture Festival – the main architecture awards competition in the world. With Hollaway Studio as lead architect, Ramboll designed the superstructure, façade and provided practical delivery solutions, realising the client’s vision of an urban sports park.

“The more experienced I’ve become and the more complicated buildings are becoming, the more I’ve realised we need to surround ourselves with the cleverest engineers. Without Ramboll’s clever engineering solutions this pioneering building wouldn’t had been realised.” Guy Hollaway, Guy Hollaway Architects.

The winners will be announced from the 30 November to 2 December at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal.

Building Magazine Awards 2022 shortlisting

Folkestone F51 Skate Park has been shortlisted as Project of the year at the 2022 Building Magazine Awards, that recognise outstanding initiatives in UK construction.

The ambitious four storey structure of concrete skate bowls & ramps, gym, climbing wall and cafeteria presented numerous complex engineering challenges. Designing and building unique non-geometric shaped concrete bowls on multiple levels is a difficult task, doing this while meeting cost targets and without creating obtrusive columns called for an innovative, can-do approach. Ramboll’s world-class team of computational designers and structural engineers designed the superstructure, façade and provided practical delivery solutions, realising the client’s vision of an urban sports park. Structural Awards 2022 shortlisting

We have been shortlisted at the 2022 Structural Awards, that acknowledge top structural engineering achievements, with two projects:

• Folkestone F51 Skate Park – Judge’s comments read “Computational technology was well utilised to design a structure that is not only visually beautiful but mindfully efficient and buildable”. This year the entry criteria and judging categories were fully updated to four new fundamentals: Planet (environmental impact), People (social value), Process (technical innovation) and Profession (professional advocacy). The Structural Awards 2022 ceremony is taking place on 11 November at The Brewery, London.

Environment Analyst’s Top 100 Environmental & Sustainability Consultancy Firms 2022

Ramboll retains its position as number 7 in Environment Analyst’s Top 100 Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) Consultancy Firms 2022. The rigorous report is based on the 2020/21 financial years figures, surveys and interviews, consulting revenue and staff numbers.

At the beginning of this year, we launched our new four-year strategy to underline our commitment to a sustainable future. The ambition is to drive sustainable change for both clients and society and become the global leader in the green energy transition.

Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) awards shortlisting

Concrete Society Awards 2022 winner

We are so delighted Folkestone F51 Sports Park project received a fantastic acknowledgement - the Outright Winner Award, at one of the most established and prestigious awards ceremonies in the UK construction sector - the Concrete Society Awards 2022 in London.

Façade Design and Engineering Awards 2022 shortlisting

The partnership delivering the Canary Wharf Floating Pavilions have been shortlisted at the Façade Design and Engineering Awards 2022, in the UK Project of the Year – New Build category. The pavilions allow people to have a much closer relationship to the water whilst revealing the surrounding environment and skyline from a whole new perspective.

The Canary Wharf Group appointed Ramboll to provide multi-disciplinary engineering services, which included structural, marine, and façade engineering. Ramboll worked collaboratively with Glenn Howells Architects to solve the unique challenges and deliver top-quality restaurant and pavilion venues, with a circular economy approach.

The project opened in December 2021 with the first of the two restaurants, and the second is currently undergoing an internal fit-out.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at Hilton Park Lane in London on Thursday 3 November.

European Healthcare Design Conference Awards 2022 winner

Cambridge Children’s Hospital was recognised at the well-established European Healthcare Design Conference - Awards 2022 in the ‘Highly Commended Future Healthcare Design’ category.

Built on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the hospital will care for children and young people from across the east of England – Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire - but also nationally and internationally, as a ‘hospital without walls’. Embedding genomic and psychological research alongside clinical expertise in physical and mental child health, Cambridge Children’s Hospital will be a brand new state-of-the-art hospital designed to take care of the whole child, not just their illness.

The international design team is led by Turner & Townsend, as project manager and cost manager, and comprises an architectural collaboration between Hawkins\Brown and White Arkitekter, with Ramboll UK providing multi-disciplinary engineering and sustainability services, MJ Medical providing healthcare planning and planning consultancy by Bidwells.

Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Award winner

Clifford’s Tower, a Scheduled Monument, and the largest surviving structure from the medieval royal castle of York has secured two top prizes at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2022.

• Conservation and Regeneration • Best of the Best

The award entry was submitted by Simpson (York), and the partnership team included Ramboll as conservation accreditation engineers in association with English Heritage, Hugh Broughton Architects, Martin Ashley Architects (Conservation), RNJ Partnership LLP.

This 800-year-old landmark, previously an empty shell, now incorporates a free-standing sustainable timber solution that protects the ruin and carries the timber viewing deck. The timber solution enables the suspension of walkways and new stairs that give access to features unseen by the public in over 350 years.

Sustainability Consulting Awards 2022 shortlisting

The Sustainability Consulting Awards organised by Environment Analyst, distinguish outstanding achievements and leadership in the sustainability sector. We were shortlisted on two categories:

  • Sustainability Leader of the Year - Philippa Spence

BCI (British Construction Industry)Awards 2022 shortlisting

The partnership delivering The Hope Sculpture project - First UK Superstructure in 100% Cement free concrete, have been shortlisted at the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards, in the Product Innovation of the Year category.

The team includes Ramboll, Steuart Padwick, Aggregate Industries, Urban Union, Keltbray and 50 other organisations, that launched their COP26 legacy gift to Glasgow, a showcase for a sustainable future with 75% lower carbon impact.
