Ramboll celebrates nomination at the Charity Times Awards 2024

Coinciding with National Inclusion Week, Ramboll attended this year’s Charity Times Awards, to celebrate our ongoing collaboration with IntoUniversity to create a more inclusive industry.

Ramboll celebrates nomination at the Charity Times Awards 2024
The Charity Times Awards honour outstanding people and initiatives within the UK charity and not-for-profit sector. The partnership between IntoUniversity and Ramboll was nominated in the Corporate National Partnership Champion category. We missed out on the prize, but just being shortlisted in this category was recognition of the impactful work we are doing to equip young people from underrepresented communities for higher education and the workplace.
IntoUniversity is a national education charity providing local learning centres in the heart of disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Each centre offers an innovative programme that offers young people aged seven and up a safe space to learn, explore and succeed. Since 2002, IntoUniversity has expanded from a single centre in west London to 40+ centres across England and Scotland, and is able to offer the long-term support that can break cycles of disadvantage through supporting underserved groups and communities.
Ramboll and IntoUniversity's partnership began in 2022 and over the past 2.5 years, has provided a wide variety of workshops, insight opportunities and support to young people across the UK. These are inspiring young people to consider a future within STEM and equipping them with the knowledge, skills and experience needed for success in higher education and the workplace. The partnership is facilitated by Ramboll's Racial Equality and STEM employee networks, and in total, 89 Ramboll employees have provided an incredible 417.5 hours of support to 359 students across the following programmes:
  • Business in FOCUS (BiF): A high-impact, competitive business simulation, hosted by Ramboll. With the support of Ramboll employees, students learn about the world of work and develop key skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
  • Careers in FOCUS (CiF): Hands-on workshops where Ramboll employees from a range of departments introduce students to their own careers, deepening understanding of STEM careers and the skills and qualifications needed to pursue them. So far, 15 BiF and CiF workshops have been supported by Ramboll as part of our partnership.
  • Mentoring: Ramboll mentors provide one-to-one support to students in their final year of school, offering tailored practical guidance and pastoral support as young people transition to higher education.
  • Work Experience: Ramboll has recently supported past IntoUniversity students in a work placement within the business, as part of their ongoing adventure into learning more about the engineering and construction industry.
Ramboll's independent Foundation ownership model enables us to make impactful investments which create a lasting impact on people and society. Through our global social impact programme, Flourish, we have been able to further support IntoUniversity's Brixton centre in London with additional workshops and content creation. This has focused on creating intrinsic links between our people and the centre to inspire growth in the STEM world.
"The invaluable work IntoUniversity does, with the support of our Ramboll volunteers, is instrumental in enabling us to deliver our social value ambitions. We are committed to encouraging young people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds into the industry and inspire them into careers in the built environment." - Kalisha Sejpar, Associate / Racial Equality Network Lead
We are excited to continue to grow our relationship with IntoUniversity and to continue our commitments to making the industry a more inclusive and accessible space for all.
