Dr. Rick Parkman is a Principal at Ramboll with over 25 years professional experience in environmental consultancy, based in the UK. His academic background includes a PhD in Environmental Geochemistry from the University of Manchester (UK, 1995) and a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science (Chemistry pathway) from the University of Southampton (UK, 1991).

His primary role is as the Europe PFAS lead for Ramboll in the UK and Europe.  During his career he has successfully fulfilled technical, operational and client care roles. He supports clients managing business risk and continuity, providing strategic advisory support to manage and mitigate environmental risks and liabilities, whilst identifying opportunities to create and add value. He has supported clients at different scales, working on individual projects at site level, through to supporting large multinational programmes of work, managing EHS liabilities and provisions. He has worked with a range of clients in the public and private sector, especially in the industrial sectors.

His background is in contaminated land liability management and in recent years has focused on contaminants of emerging concern, in particular PFAS. He’s been an active member of NICOLE (a leading forum on industrially coordinated sustainable land management in Europe) for more than a decade, and is currently involved in their Working Group on PFAS, co-leading the sub-group on policy and regulatory related issues.

During his career he has worked on several projects in UK and Europe where PFAS has been a primary concern, providing consultancy support to clients on the investigation, risk assessment and management of PFAS impacts to the environment.  He has also presented on PFAS related subjects at various conferences and workshops. Rick is also a member of the External Advisory Board for the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Manchester University.
