Ramboll partners with the Open Compute Project and iMasons Climate Accord

As the world moves rapidly on digitalization, people and businesses are increasingly dependent on data centers and other digital service providers. Sustainable operations are essential to developing technological infrastructure for high performance and seamless integration.

Ramboll, a global leader in energy, engineering, and sustainability, is at the forefront of developing sustainable solutions for clients in the data centers and mission critical industries. To expand its client network, share knowledge, and maintain a place at the forefront of innovation throughout the industry, Ramboll joined the Open Compute Project (OCP) in January 2024.
“OCP is a community fostering the integral coordination needed to meet the market demands of the data centers industry and shape its future. OCP’s mission is to design, use, and enable the mainstream delivery of the most efficient designs for scalable computing, which aligns with Ramboll’s mission of contributing to lowering the carbon footprint of the industry, a key component in our digitalized society,” said Rick Einhorn, Lead, Mission Critical Facilities for Ramboll, Americas.
“We look forward to collaborating with the OCP, and leading organizations across the globe, to foster innovation and empower organizations to design more efficient, scalable, and sustainable data centers, ultimately reducing their carbon footprints.”
Additionally in January Ramboll joined the iMasons Climate Accord (ICA). The ICA, an initiative launched in collaboration with leading hyperscalers and colocation providers, aims to unite companies across the digital infrastructure industry in the pursuit of carbon reduction. By leveraging market leadership and establishing an open standard for carbon accounting, the ICA seeks to accelerate the transition toward carbon neutrality.
Central to the ICA's mandate is the adoption of a standardized framework, the Digital Infrastructure Maturity Model, to measure and track progress in reducing embodied carbon in materials, equipment, and power usage. Participating companies commit to transparent reporting of carbon impact, paving the way for informed decision-making and market-driven initiatives. Through these collective efforts, the ICA aims to achieve global carbon accounting for each data center location, facilitating the implementation of carbon labels and promoting transparency.
Completing this circle of sustainable innovation, the OCP and ICA announced their official alliance in 2024, as well. This partnership helps further the respective missions of the organizations, prioritizing the standardization framework, and driving innovation and low-carbon technologies throughout the industry.
“Partnering with the OCP and ICA demonstrates Ramboll’s dedication to sustainable innovation in the digital infrastructure industry. Through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective action, Ramboll, together with our partners, is poised to create a more sustainable future for generations to come,” said Ali Farnoud, Environment & Health Data Center Sector Lead for Ramboll, Americas.
