Aligning ESG and investment strategy

Successful ESG policy is aligned with investment strategy and manages reputational exposure. The spectrum moves from basic compliance, to broader risk management, to intentional and opportunistic activities with a greater focus on long-term value.

Good ESG management demonstrates that short and long-term risks and opportunities have been identified and are not only being managed, but value-creation possibilities are being sought.

Wherever you are on your ESG journey, Ramboll can help develop or revise ESG policy and strategies that are aligned with ESG objectives.

ESG reporting

For clients that are already or are considering becoming signatories to the Principles for Responsible Investment, Ramboll can help with materiality mapping, gap assessments, action plans, minimum requirements and reporting.

Protecting and enhancing value during the hold period

Protecting and enhancing value during the hold period

Whether looking at an investment during diligence or after closing, or helping your portfolio companies with their own ESG initiatives, Ramboll can help you identify and take advantage of aspects that will impact your investment in the short term for the most immediate returns.

A focus on materiality – the ESG aspects most relevant to your sector, geography, business maturity and overall operating context – is vital in a time-bound investment cycle. Which issues will most impact your investment? Will it be human rights exposure in the supply chain? Will climate change impact natural resource supply or raw materials, or the demand for your portfolio companies' products and services? Or will flood risk emerge as a serious threat to some of the portfolio? Do you have programs that adequately address diversity or health and safety?

Ramboll can help you unlock ESG premium during ownership and highlight that at exit2, which is important for tracking the impact on returns and demonstrating value-add to investors.

Climate change hazards, value chain and financial impacts

Being clear on the risks and opportunities

Ramboll helps evaluate risks and take advantage of developments such as reducing emissions, preparing for changing chemicals regulations, or complying with new financial reporting disclosures.

Climate risk and resilience

One important risk facing investments is climate change, the effects of which can have significant business impacts. Assessing climate resiliency, vulnerabilities inherent in the supply chain and reporting on risks is vital, not least for compliance and business continuity.

Consistent with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Ramboll conducts scenario analyses to assess potential impact of climate events on site conditions and the ability to continue operations. Our reports include an overview of physical risks, a map of sites with hazard severity, and a summary of climate hazards and business impacts for each site. Site-level assessments show how prepared the company and its operators are for the physical impacts of emerging climate risks.

By evaluating management, property, employee and community factors, Ramboll can help with the identification, prioritization and even on-site implementation of adaptive strategies.

Common approach to net zero is not scalable diagram

Net zero and other energy management considerations

The march to net zero is filled with differing viewpoints and amendments to definitions, measurement and quantifying actions. Terms like climate neutral, GHG neutral, carbon neutral, climate positive/net negative, 1.5C aligned, science-based, Paris-aligned, absolute zero or zero emissions abound. And many companies are confused into thinking they can simply offset emissions to become ‘net zero’, which is no longer the case. Ramboll will unearth and demystify the specific issues and help define your net-zero roadmap – across global portfolios where necessary.

Identifying operational efficiency improvements is vital to reducing emissions and costs. Ramboll not only provides a portfolio of energy services including benchmarking, auditing, master planning and analytics, but we also have the planning and engineering capabilities to identify, design and incorporate low or no-carbon alternatives including district heating and renewable energy opportunities.
