Mali benefits from an ambitious water and sanitation programme implemented by Ramboll and others
In Mali, over 20 % of all deaths can be attributed to inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene facilities. Mali has hence initiated improvements in the drinkable water, sanitation, hygiene and integrated water management sectors through the implementation of a sectorial water and sanitation programme (PROSEA).
DANIDA, which is Denmark’s development cooperation under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to support the implementation of the PROSEA programme through a technical assistance to the regional directorates responsible for sanitation management (DRACPN) in 3 regions: Sikasso, Mopti and Koulikoro.
“The programme aims at reducing poverty through improved access to clean water and sanitation. We have therefore assisted in implementing hygiene and sanitation component by supporting the construction of infrastructures such as public latrine, school latrine, drainage in urban areas, as well as capacity building at regional and municipal level says Jean-Pierre Zafiryadis, Senior Project Manager in Ramboll.
Ramboll, in consortium with Hydroconseil provided technical assistance, capacity building, training and supervision, and the project has enabled better access to sanitation facilities for more than 3200 people.
