As urbanization intensifies, there is an increasing need to transport an ever-greater number of people in cities. Today’s mobility challenges should be solved by a holistic approach, integrating urban planning, all modes of transport, and digitalisation. With Strafica’s expertise on board, Ramboll is even more equipped to develop sustainable mobility solutions that focus on the needs of people, which is a key lever for achieving liveable and safe cities.

- In Finland, Strafica is the leader in strategic transport planning and transport modelling. This acquisition is a perfect fit with our strategy, and a logical continuum to our acquisition of Singapore-based Vertix last year. With Strafica on board, we can further strengthen our capability to drive data-enabled services within smart mobility for the benefit of our clients internationally, says Jukka-Pekka Pitkänen, Global Division Director, Smart Mobility, Ramboll.

Strafica is a Helsinki-based company with 21 highly-skilled experts on strategic transport planning and smart mobility, and it has a track record of acting as a high-level decision-making advisor. The company has developed a unique multimodal transport demand model taking into account all travel needs and travel conditions during the day. Amongst other things, the model is used to deliver value to transport authorities in the planning of sustainable transport modes by optimising cycling and public transportation offering substantially more efficiently than with traditional tools.

By already winning work internationally, Strafica have proved their top-notch expertise in smart mobility.

- Our digital platforms and software are scalable. We are keen to take our capabilities to global markets, and we see great opportunities both in global and domestic markets from being part of Ramboll. In addition, we both have a mission to improve sustainable and safe mobility, says Markku Kivari, Managing Director of Strafica.

By scaling up the acquired digital skills and services, Ramboll will establish a highly specialised digital mobility unit, Digital Mobility Lab. It will help the company to develop services and products such as traffic supply and demand analysis, real-time traffic data of a virtual city, data analytics and visualisation, and Mobility as a Service feasibility studies, for example.
