Ramboll employee match-funding initiative supports UNHCR in Ukraine

Our company and employees provide further donations to the UN’s refugee agency to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Since 24 February, nearly four million refugees have fled the war in Ukraine to neighbouring countries, while more than six-and-a-half million people are internally displaced. Many Ramboll employees are deeply concerned by the situation and have asked how they and the company could respond to the severe humanitarian crisis. That’s why Ramboll decided to partner with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to conduct a three-week match-funding appeal in March to help the millions of people forced to flee their homes. Our employees donated approx. EUR 145,000, an amount matched by Ramboll, to provide a total of approx. EUR 290,000 to UNHCR. “I am proud that our colleagues across Ramboll have responded to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, showing such generosity and support for the work of UNHCR in Ukraine and neighbouring countries,” says Jens-Peter Saul, CEO of Ramboll. “It is important for us as a company to play our part in helping victims of the conflict, which resonates well with the humanitarian spirit of Ramboll’s founders.” The Ramboll match-funding initiative follows a donation of approx. EUR 134,500 made by the Ramboll Foundation in support of UNHCR in Ukraine in the beginning of March. Many Ramboll employees have also made separate personal contributions, both financial and in kind, to support relief organisations in Ukraine and the region.
About UNHCR’s work in Ukraine and neighbouring countries
UNHCR has been working with local authorities, NGOs and partners in Ukraine since 1994, to provide humanitarian assistance to people in need. The organisation remains on the ground in Ukraine as well in neighbouring countries, such as Poland, Moldova and Romania. UNHCR has stepped up operations and capacity in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, sending more resources, staff, and relief items to the region to provide lifesaving emergency assistance to vulnerable and displaced people. Support includes providing shelter, transit centres, cash assistance, and special protection for unaccompanied and separated children. For example, earlier this month, four UNHCR trucks with core relief items reached the besieged city of Sumy, in Ukraine, where tens of thousands of people remain trapped without access to basic assistance – the first UN convoy with humanitarian assistance to reach the city. In neighbouring countries, UNHCR and its partners have set up Blue Dots, which are one-stop shops and safe spaces that provide protection services for children, families and others with specific needs.
