Operating from Ramboll’s new office in Gdynia, Janusz Czajkowski will act as a key local manager on Ramboll’s offshore wind projects. His main task will be to strengthen Ramboll’s leading global position and facilitate growth in the Polish offshore wind sector, which also includes to build up a dedicated local engineering and advisory team. Janusz is equipped with a sound knowledge package rooted in his 20+ years of marine, contractor, company management and offshore experience and project management of multidisciplinary investments. Janusz has previously been member of the board of offshore projects, upgrades and conversions affairs at Remontowa SA.
“There is a huge potential in the Polish offshore wind market. We would like to capitalize on that potential and bring the best of Ramboll to the market. At the same time, we are well into the particular local requirements. This is the perfect moment to expand our team and welcome Janusz onboard to initiate growth of a local offshore wind team in Poland”, says Tim Fischer, Ramboll’s Global Director for Offshore Wind.
In January 2021, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda signed the country’s Offshore Wind Act into law which came into force and completed the legislative process. The legislation allows for 10.9 GW of offshore wind capacity to be either operational or under development by 2027. It envisages an investment of about EUR 30 billion of offshore wind by 2040. Poland remains the EU member state with the highest share of coal in the energy mix (over 70%), therefore the Offshore Wind Energy is a key for Poland’s green energy future.
“I am delighted to be joining Ramboll and support developing offshore wind projects in Poland as they are one of the most necessary and important ventures to counteract climate change”, says Janusz Czajkowski.
Ramboll has worked with offshore wind in Poland for several years, securing several design and advisory contracts across the market. The newly created offshore wind team will operate from two offices in Gdynia and Warsaw and will be embedded in Ramboll’s Polish entity, a team that has worked in the Polish energy and environmental sector since 1990 and employs more than 70 experts. Ramboll’s unique market proposition in Poland is the experience in permitting in the energy sector, which also includes offshore experience through Ramboll’s involvement as responsible building permit consultant on the Baltic Pipe project. This combination of local licensed permit experience and Ramboll’s global offshore wind engineering experience will be a key differentiator since such combined expertise is currently missing in the growing Polish offshore wind market.
