During the last years, the offshore wind business in Ramboll has grown by several hundred percent on the Asian market and today, the Danish company is one of the largest global players within consulting engineering companies on the Japanese market for offshore wind energy. With the new office established in the capital of Japan, Ramboll seeks to leverage its position on the local market and be closer to the clients tapping the offshore wind business.

Reflecting on the opening, Santiago Paredes-Pinzon, APAC Director, Offshore Wind, said:

“We’ve made great progress during the past years, securing numerous projects in Asia, including Japan. The area is strategically important for our future growth plans, so it was clear that if we wanted to keep momentum, opening this new office was the right decision. Having a local team is exactly what our current set-up needed to maintain our successful path and serve our clients better”.

Shinichiro Abe has been appointed Country Director and his main responsibility will be to expand Ramboll’s capabilities and reach in the area. Shinichiro Abe has more than 20 years of global renewable energy industry experience including the latest position in a leading offshore wind company in Denmark. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and learned policy management at Keio University.

“Ramboll has a strong reputation worldwide and I am very happy to start on this exciting journey of growing our business in the region. By adding a local layer of knowledge to Ramboll’s existing capabilities we are arming ourselves with a powerful framework for delivering top consultancy services that not only cover technical capabilities, but also the cultural understanding of how business is done, which is crucial for a European company that intends to strive on the Japanese market”, says Shinichiro Abe, Country Director for Japan.

“Although our services apply globally, being near the clients is crucial for us. We want to understand their needs and challenges to be able to help them in the best possible way. We see a great market potential in Japan and for that matter we want to make sure we have the best local experts on our team. Therefore, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Abe onboard and I look forward to working together on a strategy that will elevate and complement our service offering”, adds Santiago Paredes-Pinzon.

The Japanese market for offshore wind is in full expansion and the Asian country plans to install 45 GW of wind energy by 2040 as part of its target to become net-zero by 2050. Ramboll has been present on the Japanese offshore wind market since 2013 and last year has achieved a major contract for performing the detailed foundation design of a new offshore wind farm, which will be one of the largest in Japan.
