AFRY and Ramboll Win Contract for New Metro to Älvsjö, Sweden
AFRY and Ramboll will jointly deliver part of the new metro line between Fridhemsplan and Älvsjö. The work will begin immediately.
The Swedish authorities have agreed upon expanding metro system in Stockholm with a new metro line between Fridhemsplan and Älvsjö. The new metro consists of four entirely new metro stations and two extensions of existing stations. The planned start of the construction is 2025, while the line is planned to be ready for traffic in 2034. Coming together, AFRY and Ramboll form a very experienced and capable organisation with extensive experience in planning and designing tunnels and stations. The project includes responsibility for production management such as constructability, bulk material handling, life-cycle cost, energy balance calculations, costs as well as localisation of areas of establishment and working tunnels to release the metro line from Fridhemsplan to Älvsjö. - The project is of great importance to the public transport in Stockholm. In collaboration with our partner Ramboll, we are happy to have gained enough trust to contribute to promoting climate-smart travel and accelerating the transition to a sustainable society, says Folke Sandberg, Business Area Manager in Transportation at AFRY. The assignment also includes coordination and managing of sustainability issues throughout the project. This means that the project goals of social, environmental and economic issues are formulated and followed up upon continuously. Examples of areas included are climate benefit, accessibility and robustness. Indicators for the CEEQUAL certification are incorporated into this. - At Ramboll, we have always worked to develop communities where both people and the environment can flourish. Therefore, we are especially looking forward to working with AFRY on various sustainability aspects of the implementation issues. It is the key to building a responsible and future-proof mindset and managing a sustainable project in the end, says Åsa Zeinetz, Head of Ramboll Transport in Sweden.
