In 2021, the Henning Larsen brand was fully integrated into Ramboll, proving world-leading design can go hand in hand with cost-effective sustainability solutions. This has enabled synergies with clients, leading to project wins such as The Marble Pier, for client AP Pension, which will be one of the largest timber constructions in Denmark.
Working closely with major clients across our Geographies and Markets, Ramboll has delivered sustainability-focused solutions and expertise that is helping to:
- Decarbonise the real estate portfolio of Storebrand
- Deliver an energy infrastructure master plan for the Empire State Plaza in New York
- Upgrade Denmark’s critical energy infrastructure for Energinet.

Furthermore, we continued to help drive the transition to green energy, reduce embodied carbon, and support resilience and liveability. To speed up the transition to renewable energy we created a dedicated energy transition division. This is already leading to new business opportunities including in offshore wind, green hydrogen, and Power-to-X, while helping clients and society move towards green energy alternatives.
Read about some of our key projects in the energy transition in these cases in the Report:
- Tackling the toughest emissions with green hydrogen
- Driving the global build-out of offshore wind
- Laying the groundwork for the world’s first energy islands.
At the same time, we continue to drive down carbon emissions and work with more sustainable materials and practices in many of our Markets, including Water, Buildings, Transport and Environment & Health. Check out a selection sustainability-focused 2021 projects here:
- Helping Paris prepare for a warming world
- Securing water access from California to Cape Town
- Supporting low-carbon mobility in Finland
- Halving carbon emissions and raising road safety in Sweden.
Reflected in our ambition to be The Partner for Sustainable Change, we set a high bar for our own climate action. In 2021, our rigorous targets to decarbonise our operations and value chain were approved as being in line with the 1.5°C pathway by the Science Based Targets initiative.
Throughout the year, we raised our voice to help catalyse the global climate agenda. Our aim was to convene key actors and ramp up action on the green energy transition, including at the critical UN COP26 climate summit and at a green hydrogen roundtable convened by Ramboll during the Hamburg Copenhagen Business Forum.
“Through our talented colleagues, and in partnership with our clients and stakeholders, Ramboll will continue to drive the sustainable change that our society and planet so urgently need,” said Jens-Peter Saul.
