Ramboll employees design Face Protection Screens made of office supplies for health workers
A group of colleagues have designed a new type of face protection screens that can be produced with standard office supplies. The design is open source and available to all. Ramboll is now producing the first batch of 20,000 face protection screens, which will be donated to health workers in Denmark this week.
A couple of weeks ago, a group of colleagues from Ramboll were looking for a way to put their skillsets to use and provide help to society during the Corona-crisis.
Along with other colleagues, Søren Peter Kristensen, Chief Specialist in Ramboll’s Buildings division, and Tobias Lundfos Thuesen, Team Lead in the print shop in Ramboll’s headquarters, came up with an innovative idea:
They developed a design for Face Protection Screens for healthcare workers that can be made with standard office supplies.
This design has now been approved by the Danish Safety Technology Authority.
A key point in the initiative has been to develop a design that is inexpensive and easy to produce, and one that can be shared freely, to ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the idea.
“We decided very early on to make the design open source, to reach as many people as possible. We are sharing the design specifications and a how-to guide free of cost on our website, and everyone is welcome to use the design,” Søren Peter Kristensen explains.
“We are using the equipment and office supplies we have inhouse to produce the prototypes, but you don’t need any machinery to produce the Face Protection Screens,” he continues. “You can make your own using standard stationary materials that many of us have at home”.
In many countries around the world, there is still a critical need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health workers, working e.g. in the nursing sector.
To help address this need, Ramboll will also be producing protective screens to be donated to health workers. Right now, we have supplies for 20,000 screens and we will donate the first batch this week, to health workers in Copenhagen.
“I’m very grateful for the support we have experienced from everyone involved in this project, and I’m so proud that we have succeeded with this on such a short time-frame,” says Søren Peter Kristensen.
