Water is ubiquitous at Deutsches Eck in Koblenz where the two rivers, the Rhein and the Mosel, meet and join to one. We are surrounded by water when standing at this impressive and historic landmark. But is it possible to physically interact with the water here?
Through the expanded and renovated riverside promenade, the rivers are close, but in order to live up to the motto of the Bundesgartenschau “Koblenz transforms”, the water must be accessible, touchable and tangible. In our view, this experience is realized with the water playground which is situated only a few steps away from the Deutsche Eck. This water playground will be one of the four theme playgrounds of the BUGA.
The starting point of our work was to develop a place to experience water, incorporating the theme of the two rivers, the Rhein and the Mosel. It was thought to present different landscape and water characteristics of the rivers and hereby work on the differences between the two rivers. In addition, beside the permanent construction of this water playground, a temporary exhibition ship would display the work of the water federation and ship administration to visitors.
This project was carried out by Atelier Dreiseitl, now member of the Ramboll Group.
