Ramboll is responsible for the pre-feasibility study, conceptual design and implementation on geothermal project in Viborg.

Based on the data from an oil & gas exploration drilling in Kvols performed in 1976, Viborg Municipal District Heating Company (Viborg Fjernvame) and Dansk Geotermi have decided to develop this test project together with a number of local district heating companies.

The maximum production of the geothermal plant is 32 MW of geothermal heat. The water temperature in the reservoir is expected to be 75°C and therefore the geothermal water will be exchanged to district heating water with a temperature of app. 73°C in the surface plant, located in the city of Kvols. This water can be used directly in the connection points, without use of heat pumps. 

Ramboll is the consultant to the Viborg Municipal District Heating Company, responsible for the pre-feasibility study, conceptual design and implementation. It is anticipated that the scope of the project will include a geothermal energy production plant, 32 km of heat distribution network and 4 connection stations for connection to the four district heating systems.
