The 'Kamppi Centre' is situated in the very centre of Helsinki and includes an underground bus terminal, a freight office, an underground station, a shopping centre as well as offices and apartments. The traffic terminal is located underground with a large pedestrian area with streets, and with two squares; 'Narinkkatori' and 'Tennispalatsin tori', on top of it.
'Tennispalatsi' square is a green urban space surrounded by terraces for the restaurants located in 'Kamppi Centre'. For the apartments on the upper floors, the square also acts as a welcome green area. The square is divided into a hilly area and a green plaza. The green plaza is a paved area planted with various, even exotic, trees and flowerpots with wild flowers. The 'Tennispalatsi' square is built on a deck and the trees are mainly planted in structural soil. A triangular shaped water feature with a base covered in pebbles and round flowerpots surrounds the square. The two areas are paved with granite and the main paths have heating systems.
'Kamppi Centre' has been awarded with many prizes such as the 'Concrete Structure of the Year 2006', 'RAKEVA-Prize 2005' and 'Well Done' Prize 2005. The project has received a 'Building With Care' certificate of honour and has been chosen as the 'Construction Site of the Year 2003'.
