Façade engineering

The facade is the primary moderator of the environment for all buildings, whatever the scale. Our team of façade engineers offer expert knowledge of the complex methods and techniques available and understand the importance of delivering high performance solutions that consider user comfort as well as the aesthetics.

We offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary service, covering design and consultancy in all project phases. Our experience also covers all scales and all climates.

Integrated façade service

Our team of façade engineering experts work closely with architects, structural engineers, contractors, manufacturers, installation specialists and consultants within sustainability and environmental issues, to deliver fully integrated solutions.

Constructing façades is a considerable task, which often accounts for over 25% of a construction budget. We add value to the project by offering detailed analysis that enables us to help meet our clients’ individual needs and provide highly efficient solutions.

Comprehensive façade expertise

We have extensive experience with full-scale testing and performance analysis of materials and products, and we continually contribute to development programmes covering materials, component design and procurement.

Our knowledge-base also includes a thorough understanding of commercial products and systems, which aids cost comparison and specification, and improves the ability to customise or create new detailing.

When determining how to design and construct a particular façade, variables such as structure, thermal performance measures, use of materials, and the interfaces between them, all need to be considered. These are crucial for achieving water- and airtightness and ensuring high performance.

In 2018, Ramboll acquired the experimental design lab Art Andersen Copenhagen and was thus given some quite unique, creative skills in the development and production of dynamic solar screening and façade solutions.

Functional, sustainable and attractive facades

We have expertise in combining all the variables of aesthetics, structure, performance and materials to create innovative solutions that are functional, sustainable and visually pleasing.

A well-designed façade contributes to the low-energy credentials of a building and our team work closely with building services and environmental and sustainability consultants to ensure that the façade is always an integral part of a building’s energy strategy.

The Hepworth Wakefield

The new Hepworth Wakefield gallery is the focal point of regeneration on the River Calder waterfront, formerly the site of a huddle of low mill buildings. It houses a collection of sculpture by local-born artist Barbara Hepworth alongside the works of other prominent artists, and is one of the largest art galleries yet built outside London.

Dynamic solar screening concepts for Mærsk Tårnet

We (as Art Andersen & Copenhagen) assisted C.F. Møller Architects with developing a range of different dynamic solar screening concepts for Mærsk Tårnet, a 17 story high-rise in the middle of Copenhagen.

Reducing traffic noise indoor by 50 %

As our cities continue to grow in both size and density, so does the problem of traffic noise.

So much that WHO categorizes noise as the second-worst environmental problem that harms human health, surpassed only by air pollution from ultrafine particles. And traffic noise is the worst culprit of all.
