The design and construction of science and research facilities requires special skills and expertise. We have a team of specialists with extensive experience of developing client briefs and designing facilities to achieve a range of complex technical requirements.

Our project history ranges from designing ultra-low vibration spaces for the most demanding imaging equipment to high containment laboratory facilities as well as developing highly efficient general lab spaces.

We add most value by being involved from the very start of a project. For the most demanding facilities this often includes being involved in selecting the best site, before the project commences.

We have specialists across all engineering disciplines including:

We have a finely-tuned approach to collecting the brief, design and handover of science facilities which adds value to clients throughout the project lifecycle.  Our investment in developing and understanding the brief is particularly important for clients; our benchmark data provides surety from the outset of the process.

Our specialists in low vibration design engage throughout projects to develop the most efficient and considered designs. We use state-of-the-art survey, analysis and prediction methods to offer world-class solutions for clients.

The Maersk Tower, extension of the Panum Complex

The building with the eye-catching Maersk Tower is in many ways a research building beyond the usual. Requirements for flexibility and security have resulted in innovative solutions.

Ramboll - The National Graphene Institute

National Graphene Institute, University of Manchester

State-of-the-art facility, dedicated to the study, research and development of graphene and its applications. Critical to the success of the project were the clean rooms (ISO standard 5 and 6 ) and laboratories that accommodate sophisticated research equipment, which have both extremely low-vibration and non-magnetic requirements, made extraordinarily challenging with the extreme intensity of services equipment.

Extremely Large Telescope (credit: ESO/L. Calçada)

European Extremely Large Telescope

Located on top of Cerro Armazones in Chile, the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) will be the largest optical/infrared telescope in the world and will take telescope engineering into new territory. With a main mirror 39m in diameter, this ultra-advanced telescope will be housed in an enormous rotating dome 85m in diameter. When complete it will be be used to search for life on planets around other stars in the Milky Way.

The Niels Bohr Building, Copenhagen, Denmark

Niels Bohr

Named after the world famous scientist and 1922 Nobel prize winner, the Niels Bohr Building will be a world leading research and teaching facility. The building is designed to embrace collaboration and knowledge sharing whilst encompassing some of the most advanced facilities with state of the engineering support e.g. vibrations, air quality and flow, electromagnetic shielding, clean rooms etc. NBB will become a vibrant hotspot for natural sciences to attract internationally acclaimed scientists.
