Ramboll acquires TuMotus, a leading rail safety management company in Germany
Ramboll has acquired TuMotus GmbH as well as its sister company TuMotus-ICB GmbH. TuMotus specialises in safety and RAM management for trackside and vehicles, while TuMotus-ICB is an accredited independent inspection body.
Railways support economic growth while producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions than other modes of mass transport. They are a clean and efficient way of moving people and goods across countries. “Sustainable rail transport will be the backbone of climate-neutral transport systems. That is why investing in the full rail system, both network and rolling stock related services, is a top priority for Ramboll’s transport sector,” says Stefan Wallmann, Managing Director of Ramboll Germany. “With TuMotus, Ramboll is acquiring world-class consultants in a fast-growing market. The acquisition complements our growing operations in Germany and fits with Ramboll’s global rail business.”
Railways are amongst the safest forms of transport. Railways operate in a highly regulated environment due to their emphasis on safety and their national, economic, and strategic importance. Early engagement in approval processes helps railway technology suppliers to balance safety, performance and cost. TuMotus has many years of international experience in the railway business and is an accredited Inspection Body for rail safety for all types of railway projects.
Ramboll has been present for over 20 years in Germany, delivering a broad range of rail consultancy services. This includes work on the driverless people mover system at Frankfurt Airport - a light rail service capable of transporting 4,000 passengers per hour -and the development of a multi-modal traffic model in Schleswig-Holstein.
“Ramboll is a perfect fit for TuMotus. Not only does it have a strong position in the rail sector, its foundation ownership means it has long-term perspective on business and is committed to sustainable development of our society,” says Hubertus Strooij, former owner of TuMotus. “We share the same values and by joining Ramboll, TuMotus employees will have 16,500 new colleagues around the world. Joining forces with Ramboll means we can offer our clients a much broader range of services and our employees fantastic development opportunities within the company.”
Founded in 2004, TuMotus GmbH offers services in the area of RAMS-management and verification and validation. TuMotus-ICB GmbH is an inspection body founded in 2019 to offer independent and impartial assessment services of safety platforms, hardware, software and systems at the level of generic products, generic applications and specific applications. Both companies are located in Braunschweig, Germany and have a total of 27 highly experienced employees.
