Ramboll is one of the most experienced bioenergy & renewable carbon engineering consultancies in the world. Our proven track record includes over 200 successful biogas and biofuel projects. Having worked on 60+ biomass and combined heat and power (CHP) plants, we specialise in delivering high efficiency rates, in some cases exceeding 100%. In addition to developing multiple new biomass power and combined heat and power (CHP) plants, our experts were the first to pioneer solutions to convert coal plants to biomass.

We provide support to our clients across every stage of the project, offering a complete suite of technical advisory services for bioenergy & renewable carbon initiatives, from feasibility studies to plant operation, emphasizing circular economy principles and carbon-neutrality goals.
- Biogas & anaerobic digestion: We embrace work across the entire value chain of anaerobic digestion, from feedstock sourcing, markets, logistics, anaerobic digestion process and operation including concept design, basic design, digestate return models, biogas upgrading, storage and utilisation, to value creation from biogenic CO2 .
- Biowaste-to-X and biofuels: We advise on sustainable production processes, integrating innovative technologies such as pyrolysis, gasification, HTL, fermentation, and optimisation of resource efficiency. We offer strategic planning, environmental assessments, site selection, process design, balance of plant, risk assessment, and project management.
- Biomass: We design and implement bioenergy plants, from 5 MW to 1000+ MW of heat, electricity or combined heat and power. These use fuels such as straw, wood chips, wood pellets, forest residues and waste wood. We also design and implement co-firing and 100% biomass conversion with boiler configurations up to 1000+ MWth.
